Joyce Ashworth is a contemporary Filipino artist whose work centers on abstraction, exploring emotion, memory, and form through color, texture, and gesture. Her pieces range from quiet, restrained compositions to vibrant, layered explorations, created through intuition and rhythm. Rather than adhering to a single mode of abstraction, her approach shifts between minimal and expressive, always grounded in emotional clarity.
She explores contemporary realism, reinterpreting familiar objects—harvests, vessels, textiles—against softened or abstracted backdrops, emphasizing atmosphere and memory rather than literal depiction.
Rooted in the textures of lived experience—rural memory, ritual, intimacy, and the emotional weight of everyday forms—her practice invites viewers into spaces where clarity and feeling converge, each piece a quiet offering of both form and remembrance.
Raised in Lumban, Laguna and originally from Sto. Tomas, Batangas, Joyce began painting in 2019 under the influence of Maestro Fidel M. Sarmiento, President of the Art Association of the Philippines. She works primarily in acrylic and paints on canvas, wood, and ceramic surfaces.
Better known for her non-representational paintings, Joyce explores the interplay of light and shadow over deep tonal fields. These abstract works have earned multiple recognitions at the GSIS National Art Competition (Finalist in 2023 and 2025, Honorable Mention in 2024).
Her representational piece was also named Finalist in the 2025 Sining Filipina Painting Competition.
Both her abstraction and contemporary realism reflect a consistent visual language anchored in material sensitivity and a reflective engagement with personal and cultural themes.
Her works are now collected across the Philippines and internationally, including the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, PNG, and KSA.
Joyce is a proud member of the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) since 2021.
The artist's medium of choice is acrylic, but Joyce also uses graphite and charcoal.
Each medium manifests in its own individual style.
She uses mostly canvas but influenced by Maestro Fidel, she also paints on acacia wood and porcelain plates, bottles, ceramic tiles, and sandpaper.
" I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process." - Joyce
